According to Section 77 of the National Civil Code, 2017 and Rule 62 of the National Civil Procedure Rules, 2017, when submitting an application for registered marriage, the following documents must be submitted along with the application. Also, the registered marriage file without the documents mentioned in the details will not be accepted.


  1. Certified copies of documents such as citizenship certificate, passport, birth certificate, etc., which reveal the personal identity of the applicants, such as name, surname, age, nationality, etc.
  2. Recommendation of the local level within 1 (one) month that the applicants have resided within Kathmandu district (if you want to get married in Kathmandu, and if you want to get married Lalitpur you should get a temporary residence from the concerned district)  for more than 15 (fifteen) days.
  3. In the case of Nepali citizens, a recommendation within 1 (one) month from the local level of the respective permanent home, and in the case of foreign citizens, a No Objection Letter within 1 (one) month from the embassy of the respective country.
  4. In case of foreign nationals, the original copy of the marriage law of the respective country and its certified copy translated into Nepali. (The documents can be translated here as well)
  5. Attested copy of the identity document of the witness.
  6. 4/4 copy of passport size photograph showing full face taken recently of male and female.
